INCOTERMS 2021 Incoterms 2021. Despite being such an integral part of our everyday lives, most people don’t know much about freight, much less the jargon associated with it. But if you are shipping goods, knowing your incoterm is essential to understanding who is responsible for what in the supply chain. The seller is liable and responsible for all tasks in their country up until the goods are delivered to the carrier at the named place, usually the terminal or a warehouse (e.g. consolidation centre). Unless the named place is the terminal, the buyer will be liable and responsible for some tasks in the export country.

Each INCOTERM is a code represented by three letters and a location. E terms refer to situations where the buyer can access the goods at the seller’s premises, while F terms involve the seller delivering the goods to DES-Delivered Ex Ship-(named port of destination) "Ex Ship" means that the seller fulfils his obligation to deliver when the goods have been made available to the buyer on board the ship uncleared for import at the named port of destination.
